June 6, 2015 Conference on Mental Illness and Incarceration

The Prisons and Corrections Section of the State Bar of Michigan (SBM) will present their Annual Conference on Saturday June 6, 2015 from 9am-12:30p m in Lansing, Michigan.  The topic is "Mental Illness and Incarceration:  Helping Families, Prisoners, and Attorneys Navigate the MDOC.”  Presenters will provide information and practical tips for attorneys and family members with clients or loved ones in the MDOC, with a special focus on mentally ill prisoners. Topics include: how to ensure the PSIR includes only relevant information; MDOC mental health programs; and the use of segregation and detention. Presenters include: Jessica Zimbelman, Assistant Defender, State Appellate Defender Office; Keith Barber, Legislative Corrections Ombudsman; Sofia Nelson, Skadden Fellow, ACLU.
