SADO - Raising race in search and seizure litigation (Part I)

Time: May 20, 2025 - 12-1:30pm
Location: Zoom

Please join SADO's Criminal Defense Resource Center for their virtual lunchtime training on Raising Race in Search and Seizure Litigation (Part I) with Ashley Burrell & Kacey Mordecai from the NAACP Legal Defense & Education Fund. Please note this is a two-part series, Part II will be on September 16, 2025.

Attendees will learn how to pursue a race-conscious approach to search and seizure litigation. After completing the training, attendees will be able to: effectively raise the issue of race at suppression hearings; analyze and apply relevant case law to argue the relevance of race when litigating unlawful searches and seizures; obtain and use information, including social science research, to litigate issues related to race and racial discrimination; and make and preserve arguments about the relevance of race.

Attorney-focused trainings are scheduled for the third Tuesday of the month, and investigator-focused trainings are scheduled for the first Thursday of the month. Of course, anyone who works on a defense team is welcome at any training. And if you miss a session, everything will be recorded and posted to our video archive. Check out the flyer for additional information and online registration.
