Prisoner Art at SADO
Prisoners housed within the Michigan Department of Corrections, and former prisoners, have generously donated art to display at the State Appellate Defender Office’s Detroit location in the Penobscot Building.
Since 1969, SADO has represented about one-quarter of those indigent felony defendants who appeal their criminal convictions. As lawyers, we do our best to get the best possible legal relief for our clients, while also seeking to improve their life outcomes. Getting to know our clients, we often realize the depth of their talents in the arts. Displaying the Prisoner Art in our workspace is a powerful statement about those talents, and motivates our staff to recognize our clients’ potential and draw inspiration from it.
