On September 2, 2011, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit granted habeas relief in Walker v McQuiggan, finding trial counsel ineffective for failing to pursue an insanity defense for an obviously mentally ill client in a murder case. SADO’s Deputy Director Jonathan Sacks successfully argued the case in the Sixth Circuit earlier this summer;a request for en banc rehearing is pending.
