SADO Posts Job Opportunity for an Assistant Defender Position
Entry-level Staff Attorneys are needed at Michigan’s State Appellate Defender Office to provide legal representation to indigent defendants in plea appeal cases. Openings are at SADO’s Detroit and Lansing locations with flexible start dates between June and October. SADO plea unit attorneys represent clients who wish to withdraw their guilty pleas or challenge their sentences. Representation requires travel throughout Michigan to counsel incarcerated clients and advocate in circuit and appellate courts. Applicants must have outstanding legal research and writing, communication, trial and appellate court advocacy, and negotiation skills. A demonstrated commitment to indigent defense is preferred, as is public service and clerkship experience. Qualified candidates must be admitted or eligible for transfer to Michigan Bar, or able to sit for the July Bar, and must have strong computer skills in MS Word and Adobe. See the full Job Posting
